ANSI Z87.1
American National Standard practice for occupational and educational eye and face protection.

Anti-Fog.
A coating on a window that prevents fogging or misting in a wide range of temperatures and conditions.

Bump cap
A light weight cap that does not meet the test requirements of a Hard Cap or Hard Hat.

Cam-Lock
The fastener on the protective device that attaches the window.

Cap bracket
A device that allows the mounting of a window to a hard cap.

Chin protector
That portion of a face shield that offers protection to a wearer's chin, or lower face and neck.

Cover lens
An expendable pane of clear material to protect a window from damage.

Cover plate
The outer expendable cover lens for a welding helmet or goggle.

Faceshield
A protective device commonly intended to shield the wearer's face, or portions thereof, in addition to the eyes, from certain hazards. Faceshields are secondary protectors and shall be used only with primary eye protection. A faceshield includes a headgear, or other mounting device, and window in combination.

Flat
Refers to the shape of the window. A flat window must be wrapped around the spark guard and will not provide the fit of a formed window. It is not recommended to use .060 Lexan Polycarbonate as a flat window.

Formed
Refers to the shape of the window. A formed window conforms to the shape of the spark guard or other attachment device and is considered superior in fit, feel and function.

Gauge
The thickness specified as per the following method. Example gauge = .060"

Hard Cap
A safety helmet that has a front brim.

Hard Hat
A safety helmet that has a brim which extends around the helmet.

Hat Bracket
A device that allows the window to be mounted to a hard hat.

HDPE
High Density Polyethylene is a material used in opaque general purpose components.

Infrared radiation
As referenced in the ANSI Z87.1 standard, the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum with wavelengths from 780 to 2,000 nanometers.

Injection Molded
A fabrication process that produces products by filling a mold with molten plastic at high pressure.

Medium Green
ANSI Z87.1 defines medium green as a window color transmitting visible light at 23% +-4%.

Metalized
A coating on the front of a window that is designed to reflect UV, IR and reduce visible light.

Nanometer (nm)
One billionth of a meter. This is the standard measurement for describing wavelengths of light.

Not Warranted Shatterproof
A warning statement that applies to all face and eye protective devices. This statement notes this potential for any product.
